Setting Sail: How it All Began
The founders of Big City Tourism were inspired by the idea of presenting New York City from an unconventional perspective. Intrigued by the tranquility of the city’s waterways, they envisioned a boat tour that would allow guests to witness NYC from an entirely new angle. Their goal wasn’t just to showcase famous landmarks, but to educate visitors in the lesser-known stories, secrets, and authentic narratives that shaped the city’s soul.
Behind the Scenes: Q&A with the Big City Team
How did the idea for the boat tour come about?
- The idea for our boat tour stemmed from our collective desire to showcase New York City from an unconventional viewpoint. The notion of offering guests an experience that blends iconic landmarks with lesser-known gems sparked the inception of our boat tours. As native New Yorkers, our goal was to capture the authenticity of our home and build an experience that resonates with the real essence of NYC.
What makes this NYC experience unique?
- Our boat tour stands out for its fusion of authenticity and exclusivity. What sets us apart is our dedication to unveiling hidden narratives and showcasing NYC’s lesser-explored facets. We strive to create an intimate, engaging experience that goes beyond the standard tourist trails. Our guides, all native New Yorkers, infuse their personal anecdotes and local insights to create a unique NYC tourism experience..
How do you choose the tour route along the Hudson River?
- Crafting the tour route involves a meticulous process. We built our route to include iconic New York City landmarks like the Empire State Building, Freedom Tower, and Brooklyn Bridge, while also highlighting lesser-known yet hidden gems like DUMBO and Highline.
Any memorable moments or stories from tours?
- Oh, countless! From witnessing visitors’ awe as they see Lady Liberty up close to the joy on their faces as they discover hidden corners of the city, every tour brings its share of unforgettable moments. One standout memory was when a guest proposed to their partner against the backdrop of the city’s skyline. It was a truly magical and emotional moment for everyone on board!
- In a remarkable collaboration, our partnership with NY Waterway extended beyond tours. Recently, Big City Tourism had a NY Waterways powered boat for an unexpected but crucial rescue mission when the Staten island ferry caught fire. It was a testament to the reliability and versatility of our vessels, showcasing their capacity to serve not only as a platform for exploration but also as a means of aid when the situation demanded. This event highlighted the multifaceted nature of our partnership, demonstrating how our shared commitment to serving New York City goes beyond tourism to encompass community support and safety.
How has the team’s passion for NYC and NYC Tourism influenced the tour experience?
- Our team’s love for New York City is the heartbeat of our tours. It’s not just a job for us; it’s a way to share our passion and deep connection to this city with our guests. This fervor inspires us to constantly innovate, ensuring that each tour is an authentic and unforgettable journey that reflects our genuine love for NYC.
